3 TYPES OF COLOMBIAN AREPAS TO PREPARE YOUR FAMILY

 The arepas can be cooked in several ways: fried, baked and roasted. The dough can be seasoned simply with a little salt or enriched with cheese, butter, milk and eggs.


 AREPA OF CORN WITH CHEESE
              (Servings: 6-8)

 Ingredients

  • 2 cups precooked cornmeal
  • 2 cups of warm water or 1 cup of water + 1 milk
  • 2 cups of grated cheese (Mozzarella, fresh cheese, Panela cheese or coastal cheese)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoons of butter
  • Sliced or shredded cheese to put on top

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the cornmeal, warm water (or water and milk), grated cheese, salt to taste and butter.
  2. Use your hands so that the dough is completely compacted.
  3. Form balls the size of a fist and then crush them with your hands, or with the help of a plate.
  4. Heat a frying pan or grill, and brown it with a little oil or butter.
  5. Arrange the arepas on the grill and leave them on a moderate heat, until golden brown.
  6. Minutes before serving, cover with cheese slices on top, until it melts.
  7. Serve immediately.
EGG AREPA
Preparing an egg arepa is a challenge. Here we show you several options for you to do as an expert.



Ingredients


  •  1 pound of corn flour or piled corn
  •  1 bottle of sunflower oil
  •  A teaspoon of salt
  •  Half a teaspoon of sugar
  •  10 eggs 
  • Water


Preparation

Put the flour in a bowl with the salt and sugar. Add the water little by little until a very soft, manageable dough forms. When the dough is ready, the arepas are made approximately 5 centimeters and 1/2 cm thick.

Apart, put enough heat in a pot to heat vegetable oil, when it boils put one by one the arepas bathing them with oil. These should rise to the surface and sponge, leave 3 minutes and remove from the fire. Carefully make a 3 cm lateral opening to introduce the raw whole egg, press it a little with your fingers and put it back to the oil not so hot for the egg to cook.




Ingredients:

  • 5 cups of sweet corn kernels.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • Salt to taste.
  • 3 tablespoons butter without salt, or more as needed.
  • Fresh cheese or white cheese to serve.

preparation:

  1. Put all the ingredients in the blender and mix until you get a thick dough.
  2. Melt butter in large skillet or broil pan over medium heat.
  3. Keep the pan over medium heat, add about 1/4 cup of the dough in the pan.
  4. If you want to finish in the oven: Place the pan in the oven and leave it for 3 to 4 minutes, until golden brown.
  5. Serve immediately with butter and white cheese on top.
